“God, remind me why I am doing this again?”

May I introduce myself; I’m Sarah, married to Gary and mother of 3 daughters. Gary and I run the Street Angels in Magaluf, Spain. We have been here in Mallorca since 2016.

I love writing and wanted to write a blog during my time with Street Angels. We have wonderful experiences while working on the streets so I thought this could be a space to share some of those with you, along with life lessons and general comment. I hope this blog, enlightens you, lifts your day or brings you some form of hope.

One of the questions we get asked regularly is, ‘why do you do this?’, especially when people find out that we wake up in the early hours of the morning, get dressed to come out on the streets of Magaluf, and all under a voluntary basis.

Ok, so I have to be honest here, when the alarm goes off at 2 am, I don’t jump out of bed with a smile on my face saying “I’m ready!”, I often wake, asking God “Remind me why am I doing this again?!”

When Jesus was here on this earth, he was ‘on call’, 24/7. We think that celebrities are a modern concept, born in the era of the 1960s with the Beatles or Elvis. Well, Jesus, had the whole town follow him, everywhere he went, crowds rushed to see him. There was no press or social media to advertise where he was; just the fact that he performed miracles, spoke the truth and showed love. People flocked to get near him.

It doesn’t specifically say in the bible, but there must have been times when he felt fed up with the day to day onslaught of meeting people, having questions asked of him and people begging to be healed or helped in some way. What propelled him to do such things? He wasn’t paid, he didn’t even have a home to speak of, yet the thing that carried him was love.

Whenever I feel like ‘jacking it all in’ on those early morning alarm calls, I think of the reason, and in the words of John Lennon from the Beatles “Love is the answer, and you know that for sure”.

So keep loving one another and have a blessed day

Sarah
